Cleaners Hackney Modern Slavery Statement

This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Cleaners Hackney in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. Cleaners Hackney is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our business or among our suppliers.

Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy

Cleaners Hackney maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, including forced labour, bonded labour, servitude, child labour, human trafficking, and any exploitation that denies individuals their freedom or dignity. This commitment applies to all employees, workers, contractors, agency staff, and any third parties who act on our behalf. We expect the same high standards from all parties we work with and will not knowingly engage with any organisation involved in modern slavery practices.

Our leadership team is responsible for promoting a culture of respect for human rights and ensuring that decisions are made with full consideration of our modern slavery obligations. Breaches of this policy are treated as serious misconduct and may result in disciplinary action, termination of contracts, and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.

Our Operations and Supply Chains

Cleaners Hackney provides professional cleaning services in Hackney and surrounding areas. Our supply chains include providers of cleaning products, equipment, uniforms, facilities, and various outsourced services. We recognise that some sectors and regions present greater risks of modern slavery, and we focus enhanced due diligence on these areas.

We seek to build long-term, transparent relationships with suppliers who share our ethical values. We aim to work collaboratively to improve labour standards, while reserving the right to disengage where serious concerns are not addressed in a timely and effective manner.

Supplier Standards and Audits

All new suppliers are assessed against our ethical standards, which include explicit requirements relating to labour rights, working conditions, and freedom from coercion. We require suppliers to confirm that they comply with all applicable labour and human rights legislation and that they have policies and procedures in place to prevent modern slavery within their own operations and supply chains.

Cleaners Hackney conducts proportionate supplier audits, which may include document reviews, site visits, worker interviews, and verification of age and right-to-work status. Where non-compliance or indicators of modern slavery are identified, we require corrective action plans with clear timelines. Failure to demonstrate meaningful and sustainable improvement may result in suspension or termination of the business relationship.

Training, Awareness, and Reporting Channels

We provide training and guidance to relevant employees and managers so they can recognise signs of modern slavery and understand how to respond. Topics include identifying risk indicators, conducting ethical recruitment, and handling concerns safely and confidentially.

Cleaners Hackney encourages all workers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to raise concerns about potential modern slavery in our operations or supply chains. Reports can be made verbally or in writing through internal reporting lines, to line managers, senior management, or designated compliance contacts. Individuals are encouraged to report as soon as they reasonably suspect any form of exploitation or coercion.

We take all reports seriously, investigate appropriately, and seek to protect anyone raising concerns in good faith from victimisation, retaliation, or detrimental treatment. Where necessary, we will cooperate with law enforcement and relevant agencies to support investigations and protect affected individuals.

Ongoing Improvement and Annual Review

Cleaners Hackney is committed to continual improvement in our approach to tackling modern slavery. We periodically review our risk assessments, due diligence processes, contractual terms, and training content to ensure they remain effective and proportionate to the evolving risk landscape.

This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed and approved at least annually by the leadership team. As part of the annual review, we evaluate our progress against key actions, including strengthening supplier audits, enhancing staff awareness, and improving mechanisms for worker voice and feedback. Where gaps are identified, we set clear objectives for the following year and allocate responsibility for implementing improvements.

By publishing this statement, Cleaners Hackney reaffirms its commitment to respect human rights, oppose all forms of modern slavery, and work collaboratively with employees, clients, suppliers, and partners to promote fair, safe, and transparent working conditions across our industry.
